Fiji is well known for its beaches and coral islands, but its lesser known inland swimming holes offer some unique
experiences that will add variety to your swimming holiday. The best time to visit is early in the drier season, around
May and June. The wet season runs roughly from December to March, when heavy downpours can hamper road access to inland areas
and flood swimming holes. It's warm enough for swimming all year round.
Here are two freshwater swimming spots on the main island, including a hot spring and a waterfall near Nadi.
I have personally swum in all of these swimming spots to verify swimming conditions. I've also added some travel tips to try
and dispel some of the myths about travelling in Fiji that I read about before I went, which will make your journey run

Swim safe, have fun and remember that no matter how cold the water is, it's alright once you're in!
Located near the Sleeping Giant Zip Line on the Sabeto Road, Orchid Falls is at the end of a short walk
through the jungle on a well-defined path. Unlike the beach,
the water here is refreshingly cold, which is a perfect way to cool down on a hot Fijian day…
This was one of my favourite experiences in Fiji. Coat your body in silky smooth black mud, stand
around and wait for it to dry, and then wash it off in four successive thermal pools. Therapeutic
and heaps of fun to boot…
Despite scouring the various travel blog websites, I struggled to find reliable information about
Fiji before I visited. Here are some tips that might help your trip to run smoother such as
when to visit, eating in Fiji (including gluten free eating), hiring a car, etc…
My companion website Ankle Deep Water
lists shallow water recreation areas
that I have come across during my search for swimming holes. These are for splashing about or relaxing in when you
don't want to fully commit to a swim. Most are suitable for inexperienced swimmers (under supervision),
so they can be a great option if you have a young family.
My companion website Waterfall Seasons in Fiji - The Waterfall Guide
all of the waterfalls that I have visited during my search for swimming holes. In Fiji, the only waterfall I reached was the Orchid Falls
above, with my attempt to reach another waterfall along the Coral Coast thwarted by heavy rains.
Each swimming spot includes a link to swimming safety information
. Please make sure you
read that information before you head out, particularly if you are an inexperienced swimmer.
I'm always interested in hearing about and visiting new swimming holes, so feel free to share them
with me and suggest a swim
